Routine check-ups and hygiene appointments
Prevention is better than cure, and regular examinations are vital in maintaining dental health. We recommend having a check-up every six months, where you will receive a thorough oral examination to ensure that any problems are caught early on and treated when they are still mild.
Routine check-ups
One of our leading dentists will conduct a full examination of your mouth, gums, tongue, throat, jaw, muscles and salivary glands and evaluate your overall risk of tooth decay and gum disease. X-rays will also be taken at routine intervals to help assess for any signs of decay. They will also look out for any indications of oral cancer.
Hygiene appointments
More than just a scale and polish, our highly-skilled dentists will clean your teeth professionally using both hand instruments and ultrasonic scales – removing any plaque (bacteria that forms on the surface of and in between teeth) and tartar (hardened plaque) that is not reached by brushing and flossing – before enjoying a thorough polish with a special paste to remove any stubborn stains.
Plaque and tartar that is not removed can cause gum disease, which, if left untreated, can cause receding gums, loose teeth and infections, and more serious health issues such as heart disease, diabetes and strokes. Catching gum disease in its early stages is important because it usually begins without symptoms but progresses rapidly into periodontitis, which is when the inflammation reaches the bone and, if left untreated, can result in tooth loss.
Factors such as smoking, poor health and incorrect brushing can all lead to gum disease, and our dentists are trained to spot the signs of incorrect brushing and help you correct your daily routine in a personalised way to help suit your particular dental needs. It’s important to remember that although gum disease is extremely common, it is also easily preventable, so regular hygiene appointments are vital.
